UGOOD launches NWFP Consortium for Peace and Development (NWFP-CPD) on March 2nd, 2009.
UGOOD in collaboration of various local NGOs of NWFP area established a consortium titled “NWFP CONSORTIUM FOR PEAC & DEVELOPMENT (NWFP-CPD). NWFP-CPD started under the leadership of UGOOD as a mechanism for NWFP NGOs to coordinate various activities and work together on specific issues relating to Peace and Development in the NWFP Province.
NWFP–CPD is a consortium of 52 NGOs belonging to all settled/unsettled 24 districts of NWFP. These NGOs represent the whole NWFP province and have been combined in this consortium with the main purpose of this Consortium is to promote co-ordination, information sharing and research to contribute to the alleviation of human sufferings in the area, the equitable and sustainable development of NWFP society and to provide a forum that promotes dialogue, collaboration, learning experiences and information exchange.
One of the prime causes of the disturbance created in NWFP is the fact that general public especially youth lack exposure and awareness. In past they have been only approached by religious workers who had their own vested interest and agendas. Very little effort has been made by the government and international organizations to approach the area and involve local community in the development process, that’s why there has been very little impact of the development projects and people have become rigid & extremist. Their ignorance has provided a chance to the forces like Taliban to penetrate among the local community which led to the current disaster in the form of terrorism.
Thankfully as a result of war against terrorism by the concerned people of the world, the area has got freedom from the extremist forces, however, now there is a greatest need to create awareness among the local people and gain their trust. Once the trust of local community is obtained by the positive and moderate forces, the area shall never become susceptible to the terrorists and negative people in future.
UGOOD believes that the NWFP-CPD can create a positive role in such process and may serve as an effective forum for any interested party to approach local community and implement development projects in the area.
We at UGOOD volunteer ourselves to help in any such activity by any one that can create peace and bring development in the disturbed part of our country which has bothered the whole world with terrorist activities.
NWFP-CPD shall also represent its members and their constituency at international, national and local levels, enhance public awareness about the role, values and responsibilities of NGOs & capacity building and training of NGOs through workshops, forums and training sessions, so that these NGOs of NWFP areas can later on become part of the mainstream development strategy. Since the inception NWFP-CPD has received a tremendous response from local NGOs which are increasingly become a part of the consortium.
