UGOOD Baseline Survey and Mapping for District Lakki Marwat on March 7, 2008

Lakki Marwat district of NWFP reflects the similar attributes as most of the districts of the province. Agriculture seems to be the major contributing factor here. The contribution of forestry seems to be negligible of the district. There is no chance and provision of natural parks in the district or any other contributing factor. The concept of development has steadily been transformed from technological interventions during green revolution of 1960 to the current broader concept of sustainable human development, which has given emphasis on the social well-being and welfare of the people combined and multiplied with economic development and protection of the integrity for ecological and human support systems. Our socio-political & economic analysis depicted that district Lakki Marwat has been neglected for economic and social development during the last political regime due to political rivalry amongst the last MMA government and Saif Brothers; deteriorating the social and economic progress in the district.

Primarily the social factors are based upon environmental problems which might have turned to be un-rest security or fear of unknown; this caused a wave of unsatisfactory behavior amongst the general masses. Growing population seems to be major cause to slow down development in the district due to non-availability of recreational opportunities and unemployment. Another issue is serious shortage of drinking water resources in most of the areas of the district. The cropping up sanitation situation yielded into deterioration of health and increase in disease spread out in the district. The problem is compounded by the lack of basic health facilities and sanitation and sewage system in most union councils of the district.

Similarly, the low literacy rates are limiting the opportunities of gainful employment, penetrating social insecurity, and discouraging reduction in population growth rate.

United Global Organization of Development (UGOOD) has taken the initial steps to address these issues through presence of Citizen Community Boards in the district. Our first CCB’s will be based in the village Tajori. The CCB’s will be addressing the following issues:

  • Drinking Water
  • Population Growth and Ford Security
  • Poverty and Migration
  • Women and Development
  • Sustainable Population Growth
  • Community Participation
  • Communication
  • Education
  • Health
  • Urban Environmental Development
  • Solid Waste Management
