In Pakistan various districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Kashmir and Chitral (Gilgit Baltistan) are hit by the worst flooding for last 80 years. At least more than 400 people have died so far and entire towns and villages are destroyed. Latest estimates suggest more than 15 million people are affected and need help. The worst hit area of the country has been Chitral (Gilgit Baltistan) where the flooding first began two days ago. Over the last three days, other areas have faced a similar deluge - Punjab, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, Neelum (Kashmir) in Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The severity of the flooding has caused enormous damage to the country's infrastructure in both rural and urban areas. Entire settlements of mud-brick houses are reported to have been swept away, major bridges have collapsed, and some major provincial cities have been totally cut off after road and rail links were severed. The widespread disruption to the country's communications network has meant that reaching the worst-hit areas of the country is extremely difficult.

Since the floods first began, UGOOD has been at the forefront of relief efforts that are now supporting thousands of people, many of whom have lost their homes. UGOOD volunteers have been carrying out rapid needs assessments in affected areas that have been followed by distributions of food coupons and other relief items including tents, hygiene kits, tarpaulin sheets and kerosene stoves.

The UGOOD has also set up a medical camp in Sultan Kot to provide immediate medical assistance to almost 3,100 affected families. Emergency food packs are being prepared for distribution and UGOOD has set up a number of 24-hour operations control rooms in Islamabad and at its Consortium in the flood-affected.

The UGOOD rushed Volunteers and Teams of doctors to Floods Affected Areas in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtonkhwa and Sindh to mobilize their support and address the urgent plight of millions affected by torrential monsoon rains across the volatile country that have killed around 6,500 and affected around 15 millions people across the Pakistan.

The disaster is now into its second week and the rains are spreading into Pakistan's most populous provinces of Punjab and Sindh, as anger mounts against the government response after villages and farmland were washed away.

"Altogether, more than 14 million people are in a way or another affected," said Ishtiaq Gilani, who heads the "UGOOD Flood Relief Program" in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtonkhwa and Sindh.

The UGOOD Survey Team says 80 per cent of "Food Reserves" have been destroyed in the flooding and Pakistan's meteorological department has issued new warnings of rain to come elsewhere.

"What we are facing now is a major catastrophe," the UGOOD official said in Islamabad to Pakistan Television News at G-11 Flood Relief 2015 Camp.

UGOOD has also played active role during any Disaster or Emergency, anywhere in Pakistan such as:

  1. Earthquake of Kashmir and Northern Pakistan on October 8, 2005.
  2. Earthquake of Baluchistan on October 29, 2008.
  3. Largest IDPs catastrophe of FATA, Khyber & Kurram Agencies on May 06, 2009.
  4. Air Blue Plan crash in Margalah Hills in Islamabad on July 28, 2010
  5. Massive Flooding caused by Record Breaking Rains on August 20, 2010.
  6. The worse Internally Displaced People (IDPs) Crises on September 16, 2010.
  7. Heavy Monsoon Rains and Devastating Floods of September 05, 2011
  8. Tornado/Twister hit the outskirts of District Sialkot on March 19, 2011
  9. Bhoja Airline Plan crash in Islamabad on April 20, 2012.
  10. Havoc Rains and Devastating Floods on September 10, 2012

Victims of the most dreadful floods in the history of the Pakistan are desperately waiting for our help. Keeping in view the current situation of the areas and the basic necessities of the victims, UGOOD has devised following strategy for provision of Emergency Relief as it follows:

The flood victims are vulnerable to many epidemical diseases due to climate, unhygienic water and food items including cholera, diarrhea, fever, typhoid, malaria etc. UGOOD has, therefore, formulated 7 teams of Doctors, Paramedics and Volunteers for establishing Medical Camps in the following flood effected districts of Pakistan. Noshera, Swabai, Mardan, Charsadda and Malakand of Khyber Pakhtonkhwa and Chitral of Gilgit Baltistan

The other basic necessity of the victims is the food, which is being provided to them by UGOOD in the form of dry food items. List of such items is provided below for one family for one week:-

List of dry food items
Dry Milk (For babies) 2 kg
Rice 3 kg
Pulses (5 different types) 5 kg
Sugar 2 kg
Tea 1/2 kg
Flour 20 kg
Biscuits 1 kg

UGOOD has established relief Camps to collect relief items in G-11, F-10 and F-11 Markaz Islamabad, where you can deposit your cash or in- kind donations. UGOOD have made special arrangements to ensure timely deliverance of your donations to Flood Victims in various areas of Pakistan. The cash donations shall be spent to provide Medical Aid and Food to the victims.

If you have any query or needed further information regarding Monsoon rains & Flooding of July 2015 please feel free to ask.
